Royal College of Physicians
Clinical Medicine, 2014, Vol 14, No 1: 91
This book delivers a uniquely relevant and accessible take on
microbiology and does an excellent job of bridging the gap between the dry lists of pathogens learnt at medical school and the clinical reality of infection...I would recommend it to medical students and junior doctors in all specialties.

This book provides an impressively broad coverage of microbiology in theory and practice and I can see uses for it for students, junior doctors and general practitioners. In the Proteus-like swarm of handbooks this one has found its niche...it still has a place in my bag several weeks after I first picked it up.

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society
The Pharmaceutical Journal 2013; 291: 635
This carefully edited pocket guide to all things infection related packs a vast amount of information into a small space, and would be a useful back-up or portable revision aid for any pharmacist dealing with infection. This would make this a practical aide-memoire for the busy clinician, akin to the Oxford Clinical Handbook series.

Microbiology Nuts & Bolts is a comprehensive yet concise
book that would be useful to any healthcare professional
managing patients with infections. Its pocket-sized and
clinically focused layout makes it a ‘must have’ survival tool
for junior doctors who are expected to understand and
manage increasingly difficult clinical problems.

Microbiologist September 2014
Microbiology Nuts and Bolts is a pocket-sized paperback book. The target readership encompasses doctors on the frontline of Medical Microbiology and those studying for or working in allied professions such as nursing, pharmacy and biomedical sciences. The contents of the book will equip doctors to effectively manage their patients as it addresses the scenarios they face day-to-day on the wards, in clinics and in GP surgeries. Likewise, it will help those in allied professions understand their aspect of the subject within the wider context of Medical Microbiology as a whole.

This pocket-sized book, with accompanying website (www.microbiologynutsandbolts.co.uk), was written by UK-based consultant microbiologist, David Garner. Overall, it is a very good pocket guide covering the basics of microbiology, with handy tables and diagrams that can be referred to rapidly when required.
